Who I am

This is the website for the Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship ‘Hazardous Hospitals: Cultures of Safety in NHS General Hospitals, c.1960-Present.’ It is managed by Dr Christopher Sirrs. The website address is:

What personal data is collected and why


When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so any follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

If you choose to contact me directly using a contact form, you consent for me to collect your personal data, such as name and email address, for the purpose of communication. Your personal data will be retained for a maximum of 10 years, at which point they will be deleted, unless further explicit consent for data retention is obtained (for instance, if you would like to keep in touch). However at any time you can email me directly at to request that your personal data are deleted.

Your personal data will not be shared with any third party, such as a direct marketing company or other such organisation. They will be secured using strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and where available, full-device encryption.


If you leave a comment on the site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
